Nicaragua Volunteer Program

Nicaragua called as the land of volcanoes is a beautiful place. Known for its patron saint festivities, its zoo and museums it makes for a very good tourist destination.  

Nicaragua in spite of being a beautiful country is plagued with many economic problems. It faces grave problems with respect to education and health. There is a dire need for community development in this country.  Statistics by the Ministry of Education in Nicaragua reveal that around 50, 000 of the children in Nicaragua do not attend school. Due to the lack of free education until 2007 many children were deprived of education.  The rural people in Nicaragua live without access to hospitals or to medical facilities.  Due to extreme poverty in regions such as in towns outside Juigalpa, the people here cannot avail medical facilities.

To overcome this crisis, many efforts are made to improve the condition of the people by introducing volunteer help from nationals outside Nicaragua. Many community level programs are being carried out in Nicaragua through volunteer help. Volunteers provide educational, business and technical advice to the community at large. Many such projects are being undertaken in Granada and in Masatepe regions of Nicaragua.

There are also programs where persons apart from participating in volunteer work can also learn Spanish during their volunteer stay in the country and at the same time participate in the community level programs undertaken to help the rural and poor masses of the country. International Volunteer Program is not only a boon to the poor people living in the remote and rural areas of Nicaragua but it also provides opportunities to nationals of other countries that wish to share their labour, efforts and expertise to the upliftment of a society who at the same time wish to study Spanish there.
